#1 UNC Blanks Hokies, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL - No. 1 North Carolina posted a 7-0 shutout victory over Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis match on Sunday afternoon inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
A day removed from its first conference loss of the season, North Carolina (17-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) notched its first 7-0 shutout in over two months with a new-look singles lineup against the Hokies, who fell to 11-5 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.
No. 18 Makenna Jones played on court one for the first time and promptly took down Virginia Tech's lone ranked player, No. 66 Natalie Novotna, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 70 Alexa Graham moved to three singles and was again first off after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Elena Cerezo-Codina. The sophomore from Garden City, New York, improves to 18-0 this spring in dual match action.
No. 103 Chloe Ouellet-Pizer continued to hold down the six spot in singles, and clinched the match after a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nina Sorkin.
No. 27 Sara Daavettila and No. 47 Jessie Aney won in straight sets, and freshman No. 20 Alle Sanford picked up a key victory playing at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (3), over senior Caroline Daxhelet.
The Tar Heels won the doubles point behind a pair of 6-3 victories. Marika Akkerman and Sanford were first off on court two. Shortly there after, the second-ranked duo of Aney and Graham remained unbeaten in conference action with the clincher on court one.
Carolina faces No. 14 Wake Forest on Thursday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at 5 p.m.
