Keefer and Dunston Lead Way For Carolina At Bob Pollock Invite
January 26, 2018 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. - North Carolina freshman Anna Keefer went over 20 feet for the first time as a collegiate athlete in the long jump, and senior Cierra Dunston set the fastest 400 meters time in the ACC this season as the Tar Heels wrapped up the first day of the Bob Pollock Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
At the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 20, Keefer (St. Michael Albertiville, Minn.) lept over 19 feet for the first time as a Tar Heel to set the conference's top mark in the event at 19-11 Âľ (6.09 meters). This afternoon, she pushed that mark to 20-1 (6.12 meters) to take third in the event, move into the top 20 in the nation and stay at the top of the conference.
"Anna Keefer continued to have a good start to her season," head coach Harlis Meaders said. "She had the one jump over 20 feet with the rest right at 20 feet, which showed consistency following her big jump last week."
Dunston saw action in the 400 meters for the first time this season, and she did not disappoint. The senior out of Powder Springs, Ga., finished seventh in 54.41, the fastest-time in the ACC this season. She is now the third Tar Heel to lead the ACC in an event this season, joining Keefer in the long jump and junior Nicole Greene in the high jump. The time was an indoor personal best for Dunston and ranks in the top 20 nationally.
"Cierra's had a great fall and has been part of the relay already," Meaders said. "But for her to run the open quarter on the track that will host the conference championship, and put forth a really good early-season time, was hopefully a sign of more good things to come."
