#5 Tar Heels Blank ECU & Davidson

CHAPEL HILL - No. 5 North Carolina remained perfect in 2018 with a pair of 7-0 victories over in-state rivals East Carolina and Davidson on Tuesday from Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
It took nearly three hours in the first match of the day against East Carolina (0-1), but the Tar Heels prevailed with a 7-0 victory.
The 37th ranked doubles combo of Sara Daavettila and Alle Sanford clinched the opening point with a 6-3 victory on court two for the Tar Heels.
In singles, sophomore Alexa Graham quickly made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court five. #38 Daavettila picked up a win on court three and fellow sophomore and 11th ranked Makenna Jones clinched the win on court two.
No. 124 Chloe Ouellet-Pizer was a straight-set winner on court six, while No. 18 Jessie Aney rallied for a win on court four in three sets.
No. 9 Alle Sanford was pushed to a third-set super breaker by No. 52 Celia Ruiz, but ultimately prevailed on court one to make it a clean sweep of the Pirates.
Later in the afternoon against Davidson (0-1), the Tar Heels completed the perfect day with another 7-0 victory.
In doubles play, the opening point was clinched by the duo of Ouellet-Pizer and Maggie Kane, a 6-3 win on court three.
Sanford continued her strong night with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court one to kick off singles play. Next to her on court two, Aney also won in straight sets.
Ouellet-Pizer gave the Tar Heels their fourth point to clinch the match with another straight-set win on court four, 6-0, 6-1.
Cassandra Vazquez was another winner on court six, while Marika Akkerman won 6-0, 6-2 on court five to complete a sweep over the Wildcats.
Carolina (4-0) hosts the ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning Friday with a doubleheader. The Tar Heels will face Winthrop at 1:30 p.m., before William & Mary takes on Illinois at 11 a.m.
