Vialle Sends #3 Carolina Over #16 Virginia

Vialle dropped her opening set to Tori Olivarez by a 6-3 score, but promptly bounced back by taking the second set 6-1, setting up a thrilling third set that would go in favor of the Tar Heels, 7-5, to give Carolina the win.
North Carolina (13-2, 3-0 ACC) cruised in doubles for an early 1-0 lead over the Cavaliers. No. 1 Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay breezed to a 6-1 win over Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelley on court one.
No. 31 Kate Vialle and Jessie Aney clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Stephanie Nauta and Cassie Mercer on court two.
Virginia (7-4, 3-1) squared the match when No. 18 Julia Elbaba took down 27th-ranked Whitney Kay on court two, 6-1, 6-0.
Carolina grabbed the lead back when 84th-ranked freshman Jessie Aney came up with another big win, this time over No. 69 Stephanie Nauta, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Erica Susi swung momentum back in the Cavaliers court with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Cassandra Vazquez on court six, however, No. 2 Hayley Carter picked up a solid 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Virginia's Danielle Collins on court one in a heavyweight bout between two players that are certainly no strangers to each other having gone head-to-head for the last three years.
Meghan Kelley fought back from an early first-set deficit to top Tar Heel freshman Chloe Ouellet-Pizer, 7-6 (0), 6-3, on court five, meaning the match hinged on court four that was won by Vialle in three sets.
Carolina visits Pitt on Sunday at 10 a.m.
