The local product from Chapel Hill earned her biggest collegiate victory to date in come-from-behind fashion to give Carolina its fifth-straight victory over the Hurricanes. After dropping the opening set, Ouellet-Pizer garnered the 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 victory over fellow freshman Clara Tanielian on court five.
The only thing left to settle was a top-10 battle between UNC's No. 2 Hayley Carter and Miami's eighth-ranked Stephanie Wagner on court one. Wagner came out on top 7-6 (10-8) in the opening set, but Carter steamrolled to a 6-0 win in the second set.
On serve and tied 5-5 when Carolina clinched its 33rd-straight home victory, Wagner got a break to lead 6-5 and would take the set 7-5 in what was an epic match between two of the best players in the country.
North Carolina secured the opening point in doubles action with the deciding point coming on court three. With Ouellet-Pizer serving with the point on the line, a Miami return went long giving her and teammate Ashley Dai the 6-3 victory.
No. 1-ranked Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay breezed to a 6-2 win over 11th-ranked Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang on court one. Miami answered back with a 6-3 win on court two.
In singles, Cassandra Vazquez was a last-minute add to the singles lineup at No. 6 and she promptly disposed of Ana Madcur, 6-2, 6-3, to make it 2-0 in favor of the Tar Heels.
Freshman and 84th ranked Jessie Aney got her game back on track with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-1, victory over No. 73 Wendy Zhang on court three.
Miami got in the win column thanks to a victory from No. 7 Sinead Lohan over 27th-ranked Whitney Kay, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). The Hurricanes inched closer when Silvia Fuentes outlasted Marika Akkerman on court four, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, but Ouellet-Pizer shut the door on the Hurricanes.
North Carolina hosts Florida State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
