Tar Heels Stymie Camels In 5-0 Win

Gallen (5-3) allowed a pair of singles in the top of the first but struck out the side to avoid any damage. The Gibbsboro, New Jersey, freshman was at his best after that, however, yielding just one hit over the next four innings before getting some help from his battery-mate in the sixth. Campbell (31-16) got the first two batters on but both times Korey Dunbar erased the runner trying to steal second.
After leaving the bases loaded in the first, Carolina (28-19) got on the board with two in the third. Bolt led off the inning with his second hit of the night and moved to third on Russell's single to left. With Russell taking second on the throw, Campbell starter Bobby Thorson (2-5) intentionally walked Tom Zengel to load the bases with one out. Tyler Ramirez drove in Bolt with a sacrifice fly and Parks Jordan pated Russell with a single through the right side.
Landon Lassiter scored on Zengel's sac fly in the fifth, and Carolina added a pair in the sixth on RBI hits from Bolt and Russell. Russell, who is now batting .361, now has hits in 19 straight games, the longest for a Tar Heel since Kyle Seager hit safely in 27 in a row in 2008.
Kelley worked the final three innings for his first save, allowing a hit and a walk in the seventh before setting down seven straight Camels to end it.
Steven Leonard and Matt Parrish had two hits apiece for Campbell.
After committing five errors in a 1-0 loss to East Carolina last Tuesday, UNC played flawless defense behind Gallen and Kelley.
Carolina will make the short drive to Elon Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest with the Phoenix.
