Carolina Earns 7-0 Road Win At Longwood

Coming off an overtime win on Thursday night, the UNC field hockey team earned its largest margin of victory this season, 7-0 at Longwood on Friday. Playing their second game in 24 hours, the Tar Heels got goals from six different players in the win.
No. 1 UNC improved to 10-2 with the win, while the Racers fell to 4-9. The Tar Heels are back in action on Sunday for their third game in four days when they host VCU at Henry Stadium at 1 p.m.
Carolina had 24 shots on the evening, its second-highest total of the season. Sophomore Shannon Johnson made two saves, both in the second half, to earn the win in goal.
Senior Loren Shealy scored UNC's first goal in the 17th minute, on a shot to the upper left corner of the cage. Junior Emma Bozek made it 2-0 just over two minutes later with the first of two goals she scored against the Racers. Just 55 seconds before halftime the Tar Heels were awarded a penalty stroke and junior Nina Notman made good on it to give UNC a 3-0 lead at the break.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Bozek scored again, this time by deflecting in a ball from Notman at the left post. Bozek's two goals on the night matched her total in the first nine games of the fall.
In the 50th minute, sophomore Kristy Bernatchez scored off a rebound to put UNC up 5-0. It was her first goal of the season, the sixth of her career.
In the 56th minute, sophomore Rachel Black scored with an assist from classmate Tyler Powell. The goal was Black's second of her career, both this season, and the assist was Powell's first.
The seventh goal on the evening came from sophomore Caroline Plyler, who scored on a pass from Bozek. The goal was Plyler's first of the eason and second of her career.
Longwood finished with five shots, four of them in the second half. The Tar Heels had five corners to two by Longwood.
