
Carolina Continues Strong Play At Kitty Harrison

CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina senior Jennifer Stone won a pair of singles matches as play continued in the eighth annual Kitty Harrison Invitational Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Stone defeated Duke's Monica Gorny and Marshall's Kristina Koprcina to lead the Tar Heel effort. Carolina also swept three doubles matches against Minnesota in the morning session.
Senior Haley Hemm and freshman Caroline Price defeated Minnesota's Alexa Palen and Magdalena Wiecha at No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (3), to lead the Tar Heel sweep of the Golden Gophers. Zoe De Bruycker and Laura Slater joined forces for an 8-0 win at No. 2, while Stone and Tessa Lyons were victorious at the third position.
Stone was the lone singles winner against Duke, defeating Gorny in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. The other four matches were all tight, with the Blue Devils taking three of the four in third-set tiebreaks.
Carolina righted the ship against Marshall, taking four of five matches. De Bruycker, Price, Hemm and Stone were all straight-set winners against the Thundering Herd.
Play concludes Sunday with doubles set to beign at 9 a.m. and singles to follow at 10:30 and 12:30.
