MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- No. 18 North Carolina did not drop a set all day in sweeping No. 69 Minnesota, 7-0, Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center. Senior Katrina Tsang defeated No. 111 Tijana Koprivica, 6-2, 6-2, at the top singles position and teamed with Shinann Featherston for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles to lead the charge for UNC. Sanaz Marand, Jelena Durisic, Zoe De Bruycker, Sophie Grabinski and Featherston all contributed straight-set singles victories for the Tar Heels.
Carolina (3-0) swept doubles for the third time in as many matches, with the No. 8 duo of Grabinski and Marand clinching the point after topping Koprivica and Jackie Sperling, 8-2. The sophomore tandem of Jocelyn Ffriend and Haley Hemm completed the sweet with an 8-3 win over Mariana Spilca and Magdalena Wiecha at No. 3.
The Tar Heels dominated the shorthanded Golden Gophers (1-1) in singles, as the hosts were missing two injured starters from their normal lineup. Grabinski was first off for UNC, disposing of Spilca at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1, before Durisic made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Doron Muravnik at No. 3.
Marand, the nation's No. 25-ranked singles player, clinched the victory for Carolina at the No. 2 spot, deeating Sperling, 6-3, 6-1. Featherston, Tsang and De Bruycker then finished out the flawless victory to improve the Tar Heels to 3-0.
UNC will continue its extended road trip next weekend in South Bend, Ind., where the Tar Heels will face Boise State in the opening match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The winner of that match will face the winner of the Notre Dame-DePaul dual for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Feb. 12-15 in Madison, Wis.
