No. 18 Carolina Sweeps Maryland, 7-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. --- No. 18 North Carolina completed a weekend Atlantic Coast Conference sweep with a 7-0 win over Maryland Sunday at the Tennis Center at College Park. Senior Austin Smith clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Maggie MacKeever at No. 3 singles, as the Tar Heels won all six singles matches in straight sets. Carolina improved to 14-6, 4-2 in the ACC, while Maryland fell to 4-13, 1-6 in league play.
The red-hot doubles tandem of Smith and junior Katrina Tsang moved to the top position against the Terps and wasted no time in disposing of Lisa Miller and Maggie MacKeever, 8-0. Senior Sophie Grabinski and junior Sanaz Marand, the No. 4 duo in the latest ITA poll, then clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Eleanor Peters and Jordan Hansbrough at No. 2. Carolina has now won the doubles point in 18 of 20 dual matches this spring.
UNC dominated throughout the lineup in singles play, as all six Tar Heels won in straight sets, led by Marand's 6-1, 6-1 win over Michal Amir at No. 2 and Grabinski's 6-1, 6-0 win over Miller at No. 4. After those wins pushed Carolina to the brink of victory, Smith sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over MacKeever at No. 3.
No. 93 Tsang, playing at the top of the lineup Sunday, won her fourth staight match and seventh in eight outings by dispatching Peters, 6-4, 6-1. Wins by Reichert and Fanjoy at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions completed the sweep for Carolina, which will finally return to the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center this week. The Tar Heels, who have been on the road for nine consecutive dual matches, will host No. 7 Duke Wednesday, April 1, at 3 p.m.
