CHAPEL HILL --- A second-place doubles finish by sophomores Haley Hemm and Jocelyn Ffriend capped play for North Carolina on the final day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Hemm and Ffriend defeated Virginia Tech's Shannon Betts and Christin Newman, 8-2, at the top position to claim three points in the doubles competition.
UNC swept three doubles matches from the Hokies, with Shinann Featherston and Gina Suarez-Malaguti winning at the No. 2 position and Katrina Tsang and Zoe De Bruycker triumphing at No. 3.
In singles action, De Bruycker outlasted Florida's Brittany Borsanyi in a third-set tiebreak, 6-2, 4-6, (10-5).
The Kitty Harrison Invitational wraps up the fall schedule for the Tar Heels, who will now begin preparations for the spring dual season.
