WEYMOUTH, Mass. --- The No. 12 North Carolina women's tennis team continued its winning ways Sunday, scoring a decisive 6-1 win over Boston College at the Weymouth Club. The Tar Heels swept the doubles point for the fifth straight match and claimed five straight-set victories in singles play to easily dispatch the home-standing Eagles.
No. 19 Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand led the way in doubles action, cruising to an 8-1 win at No. 2 over Alina Sullivan and Brittany Delaney. Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, the nation's No. 11 duo, rolled past Dasha Cherkasov and Lauren Cash at No. 1, while Austin Smith and Meg Fanjoy were equally impressive at No. 3.
Things kept going well for the Tar Heels (16-5, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) in singles play, as the visitors won five of six matches in straight sets to reach the final score of 6-1. No. 5 Long was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while No. 55 Tsang won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Boston College (4-9, 0-5 ACC) got its only win of the day from Cherkasov at No. 3.
Anundsen (6-0, 6-2), No. 98 Smith (6-4, 6-1) and No. 51 Marand (6-1, 6-2) rounded out the victory for Carolina at positions 4-6.
Carolina will continue its month-long road swing on March 31 when the Tar Heels face sixth-ranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
