No. 7 Carolina Closes Out ITA Nationals With Win Over No. 11 Cal

MADISON, Wis. --- The No. 7 North Carolina women's tennis team took out No. 11 California to close its play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin. The Tar Heels scored a 4-3 victory over the Bears, their third win over a ranked opponent this season.
Carolina (7-2) dropped the doubles point for just the second time this season to open the match. Cal (4-2) got wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to claim the early advantage. No. 24 Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand defeated No. 12 Nina Henkel and Daron Moore for UNC's one doubles victory.
But things turned around during singles play, with the Tar Heels taking four of six matches to grab the come-from-behind win.
No. 19 Katrina Tsang opened the singles portion of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 14 Henkel at No. 3 singles. After Cal retook the lead with a win at No. 2, Sara Anundsen dropped No. 34 Marion Ravelojaona at No. 4, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
UNC then moved ahead 3-2 with a win by No. 7 Jenna Long at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, over No. 32 Zsuzsanna Fodor. Just moments later, No. 73 Marand defeated No. 74 Stephanie Kusano 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match.
Carolina will now prepare for its match against Minnesota Feb. 10 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
