No. 7 Carolina Knocks Off No. 6 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The No. 7 North Carolina women's tennis team won the doubles point that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win at No. 6 Northwestern Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center. The two top-10 squads split the six singles matches, with senior Sara Anundsen clinching the match at the No. 4 position.
Anundsen and Katrina Tsang opened doubles play with an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Samantha Murray and Lauren Lui. Jenna Long and Austin Smith, playing together for the first time this season, then clinched the point with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over Keri Robison and Nazlie Ghazal.
Northwestern (6-3) quickly evened the score with a convincing win at No. 1 singles, as Georgia Rose knocked off No. 7 Long 6-0, 6-2. UNC (10-3) regained the lead with a win by Caitlin Collins at No. 5 and moved to within one point of the match with a victory by No. 73 Sanaz Marand at No. 6.
Anundsen put the Tar Heels over the top with a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 66 Liu. The win was the second in as many years for Carolina over the Wildcats. UNC scored a 4-3 upset over No. 6 Northwestern last season in Chapel Hill.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Virginia Tech. The match is set for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
