
Tar Heels Start Strong At Kitty Harrison

CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina won eight of 12 singles matches and swept three doubles matches on day one of the Kitty Harrison Invitational Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Austin Smith won a pair of matches at No. 1 singles, topping Michal Amir of Maryland and No. 14 Laura Vallverdu of Miami in third-set tiebreakers.
In addition to Smith, Sophie Grabinski and Laura Reichert scored multiple singles wins. Grabinski defeated Oksana Krutiyenko of Maryland and Magdalena Bresson of William & Mary in straight sets. Reichert topped Miami's Caren Seenauth and Maryland's Julia Huschke in straight sets.
In doubles action, the Tar Heels dropped just seven games in three pro set wins against tandems from Princeton.
Play continues tomorrow morning with singles matches beginning at 9.
