
Levy Gets 100th Career Win as Tar Heels Defeat Connecticut, 12-8

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team used a strong second-half performance to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat Connecticut, 12-8, on Wednesday afternoon at Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill. The win was the 100th in the head coaching career of ninth-year Tar Heel head coach Jenny Levy, who now has a career record of 100-44.
Melissa McCarthy and Kelly Renzi each scored three goals for Carolina, while Allison Higgins and Beth Ames scored two goals apiece. Kariane Lauri had three goals for the Huskies.
With the win, Carolina improves to 4-1 this season. The Huskies drop to 0-3 with the loss.
Connecticut got off to a quick start in the game, scoring 40 seconds into the game and leading, 5-3, at halftime. The Tar Heels scored four straight goals to open the second half and take a 7-5 lead. Then, after a UConn goal by Heather McHugh, Renzi and McCarthy scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:03 to give UNC a 9-6 edge.
Carolina will return to action this weekend when it hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Henry Stadium.
