UNC Women's Tennis Gets Another Sweep With Victory Over Marquette

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women's tennis team (3-0) defeated Marquette (2-2) with a 7-0 sweep on Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels, ranked 10th in the nation, have not lost a set or match yet. The team also swept its first two matches against the College of Charleston and Elon on January 24.
At the No. 1 spot, junior Aniela Mojzis, ranked No. 34 nationally, defeated Marquette's Veronica Briseno 6-2, 6-1. Senior Lee Bairos had a hard-fought win against Genevieve Charron, 6-3, 6-2, as the No. 2 seed. Seeded third, freshman Sara Anundsen, ranked 65th in the nation, beat Callan Smith 6-1, 6-0.
No. 4 seed, junior Kendall Cline, topped Dominika Dabrowski 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Jenna Long played the No. 5 seed and beat Andrea Bukacek 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Tanja Markovic completed the sweep with a No. 6 seed-win over Kristin Minkowski 6-1, 6-0.
The Tar Heels claimed the doubles point by winning all three of the matches. Mojzis and Cline entered as the No. 1 seeded team against Briseno and Charron of Marquette. The Tar Heels took that match 8-1. At No. 2, Bairos and Long beat Smith and Dabrowski 8-5. And in the No. 3 match, Anundsen and freshman Caitlin Collins beat Annabelle Espinosa and Minkowski 8-1.
UNC has not dropped a set to an opponent yet in its dual match play. The Tar Heels will take a break from dual matches to play in the ITA National Team Indoors Tournament next week in Madison, Wis. The four-day tournament will begin Thursday, February 5, and will end Sunday, February 8.
