Carolina Women's Tennis Falls To UCLA At Indoor Nationals

MADISON, Wis. - No. 11 UCLA won four of six singles matches to defeat No. 10 North Carolina 5-2 in the first round of the U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Women's Team Indoor Championships being held at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
UCLA won two of three close doubles matches to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match before winning three singles in straight sets, clinching the match at No. 6 on a triumph by Lauren Fisher. UNC's wins in singles came from freshman Caitlin Collins at No. 3 in a tight three-setter and from freshman Sara Anundsen at No. 5 in straight sets.
In the highlight match in singles, No. 17 Jackie Carleton of the Bruins outlasted 34th-ranked Aniela Mojzis of Carolina by a 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 score.
UCLA advances to the second round of the tournament where the Bruins will play No. 1 seed Stanford Friday at 3 p.m. UNC fell 3-1 on the season.
The Tar Heels will play host Wisconsin Friday at 9 a.m. in the first round of consolation matches.
