CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore Chad Ames and freshman Tristan Davidson each won two individual events to lead the No. 22 North Carolina men's swimming team to a 153-101 victory over Johns Hopkins at Koury Natatorium, lifting Carolina to its 500th dual meet victory in school history since 1938. UNC is now 500-171-1 in dual meet action since the beginning of the program. Meanwhile, the Tar Heel women won 13 of 14 events as 11 different individuals won one event each in a 142-110 victory over Johns Hopkins.
The double individual winners on the men's side were Ames, a native of Crawfordsville, Ind., who won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.03 and the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.34. Meanwhile, Davidson, from Mount Pleasant, S.C., won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.00 and the 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.37.
The Tar Heel men improved to 5-3-1 on the season while the women are now 6-2. The Tar Heels will play host to Virginia this Sunday at Koury Natatorium with the men competing at 1 p.m. and the women at 4 p.m.
