WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The seventh-ranked University of North Carolina women's tennis team defeated thirteenth-ranked William and Mary 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va.
The Tar Heels carried all three doubles matches to secure the first team point. Carolina's usual No.1 team of Kate Pinchbeck and Kendrick Bunn defeated Megan Muth and Amy Wei 8-5. At the No.2 and No.3 positions, however, Coach Jen Callen successfully tried new combinations. Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline paired up to defeat William and Mary's Candice Fuchs and Kari Olsen 9-7 at No.2, while Marlene Mejia teamed with Lee Bairos to defeat Kate Boomershine and Lena Sherbakov 9-7 at No.3.
In singles competition, Carolina received wins from #11 Kate Pinchbeck at the No. 2 spot, #61 Aniela Mojzis at No. 3 and Kendall Cline at No. 4. Pinchbeck defeated Muth 6-1, 6-3; Mojzis defeated Kamp 6-3, 2-6, 6-1; and Cline defeated Boomershine 6-3, 6-4.
With the win, Carolina's record improves to 6-2. The Tar Heels will host the University of Kentucky Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
