BUIES CREEK, N.C. -Ryan Kneipper, Marcus Storey and David Testo scored two goals apiece and North Carolina broke to an early lead en route to a 7-1 men's soccer victory over Campbell on Tuesday night at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Storey scored twice during a four-goal onslaught by the 17th-ranked Tar Heels in the first 11:06 of the opening half.
Kneipper added two goals and Testo had two goals and an assist for North Carolina, which improved to 6-2 on the year while winning its third straight match. Campbell dropped to 1-4 on the season with its fourth-consecutive setback.
Kneipper opened the scoring in the third minute of play when he controlled a Grant Porter serve in the area and hit a left-footed shot into the top of Camel keeper Billy Englishby's net. Just 1:36 later, Storey pounced on a loose ball in the Camel box and doubled the score.
Testo turned on a serve from Tim Merritt in the sixth minute and pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a left-footed shot. Storey then finished Testo's pass on a counterattack at the 11:06 mark to give UNC a 4-0 edge.
Campbell struck back at 19:59 when Shaun Elbaum's effort was saved by UNC keeper, but Brendon Barry scored on the rebound to cut the gap to 4-1.
UNC added three late goals - Kneipper's header in the 70th minute, Storey's chip in the 78th and Jonathan Davis' breakaway after 83 minutes.
The Tar Heels held a 21-10 edge in shots, including a 12-4 advantage in the first period. Batt made five saves in the nets for UNC, while Englishby had five stops in 76 minutes of action for the Camels.
North Carolina's seven goals marked the most ever scored by the Tar Heels in the 19-match series with the Camels that dates to Campbell's first year of varsity soccer, 1963. UNC holds a 15-3-1 all-time edge vs. Campbell, including wins in the last five meetings.
UNC plays at Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke on Saturday at 7:00.
