Women's Tennis Shuts Out Marquette

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Tar Heels got their first taste of sun and heat Monday in defeating Marquette's Golden Eagles 7-0 in their first outdoor match of the season. Carolina played Marquette in Tempe as a warm-up for Wednesday's match against ninth-ranked Arizona State.
"We have a tough match ahead of us on Wednesday," said Head Coach Jen Callen. "The players adjusted well to the sun and heat. I'm glad we were able to play a match outdoors before facing Arizona State."
All of the Tar Heels won in straight sets, with nobody losing more than four games in a single set. The doubles teams also made quick work of their opponents, winning their matches 8-3, 8-3 and 8-1 in their respective first, second and third flights.
The victory improves the 12th-ranked Tar Heels' record to 10-3 before moving in to face their eighth top-20 opponent of the season Wednesday. Kate Pinchbeck maintained her undefeated record with a 6-0, 6-1 victory to improve to13-0.
Wednesday's match against Arizona State will begin at 2 p.m. EST.
