UNC Coach Matt Doherty:
I just want to open up by apologizing. I thought the atmosphere was great. It was a great college basketball game. The fans did their part. We didn't do ours. We were up ten points then things fell apart.
We have to give them a lot of credit on defense.
I am going to look at the tape. I thought our effort was good, our energy was good, but then we just broke down. It was frustrating. We needed to get the ball inside more against their zone, and we have to shoot the ball better. We didn't shoot the ball particularly well from the foul line.
We need to get fouled more. Joseph needs to get to the foul line more. I thought Brendan was good. I need to coach him better about posting up and not having his hands down. I would like to have him in the game a little bit longer, especially in the first half.
We shot too many jump shots and did not get the ball inside to Brendan. And I thought we got impatient a few times on the secondary break. We needed to wait a little bit longer to let our big men get into position. We do have to credit their zone too where they made some minor adjustments that prevented us from using our ball screen up top.
