Tar Heels Advance To Championship Game!

Jordan Walker scored in the 83rd minute to lead fourth-ranked North Carolina past top-ranked Notre Dame 2-1 Friday in the semifinals of the NCAA women's soccer tournament.Kim Patrick also scored for North Carolina (20-3-0), which reached the championship game for the 18th time in the event's 19-year history. The Tar Heels have won 15 titles.
UCLA defeated Portland 1-0 in the second semifinal game to set up a Sunday championship game matchup with the Tar Heels. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. EST (12:30 p.m. PST) and will be televised nationally lived on ESPN2.
Amy Warner scored for Notre Dame (23-1-1), which had its school-record 24-game unbeaten streak snapped. The Irish last loss in the 1999 NCAA finals against North Carolina.
Walker picked up a loose ball at the top of the penalty box after a Notre Dame defender had cleared the ball from in front of the net. Walker's shot sailed to the far post.
North Carolina's Catherine Reddick saved a goal when she raced into an open net in the 63rd minute and cleared a shot by Notre Dame's Ali Lovelace. Tar Heels goalkeeper Jenni Branam had come out to attack the ball, leaving an open goal.
North Carolina tied the score at 65:11 after Jena Kluegel sent a corner kick to the front of the net, where Patrick outjumped the defense and headed the ball over the outstretched hands of Notre Dame goalkeeper Liz Wagner.
Notre Dame's first shot of the match resulted in Warner's goal at 19:48. Meotis Erickson sent a through ball into the middle of the field near the top of the penalty box.
Warner gathered it in and found herself one-on-one with Branam. After dribbling right and drawing Branam out of the net, Warner kicked it past her and into the far corner of the net.
