Anyone who ever doubted the wisdom of the New York Yankees when they took Tyrell should have been at Shipley Field Friday as North Carolina defeated the University of Maryland --- in the first game of an ACC doubleheader. Godwin lined a two-out, two-strike pitch to the right field wall, driving in the tying and go ahead runs for Carolina. The Heels finally overcame sloppy defensive play in the first inning and poor hitting to take the contest from the host Terps. Carolina starter Ryan Snare pitched masterfully for the second consecutive outing and kept the recently slumping Heels within striking distance. Snare turned in the first complete game of his UNC career and the first of the year for the Tar Heels as a team. Dan Moylan also homered for UNC to pick up the fourth run and close out the scoring.
Updates regarding the second game of this doubleheader will be availble immediately following the conclusion of the game. Lefty Chris Elmore will start the second game for Carolina.
