William & Mary Defeats the Tar Heels, 5-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 47th --ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team fell to William and Mary 5-2 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center Saturday.
Carolina fell to 5-3 on the season with the loss to the Tribe. The Tribe extended their season record to 9-4. The Tar Heels dropped the doubles point to the Tribe to go down 1- 0 at the start of the match. Back from a shoulder injury, Tar Heel senior and team co-captain Tripp Phillips played his first doubles match in seven months. Phillips and partner Chad Riley lost a close match to W&M's Brian Lubin and Dave Kenas 8-6 at #3. Assaf Drori and Bjorn Rencken afforded the only doubles win for the Heels, with a victory over Lee Harang and Tim Csontos 8-2 at #2. In his singles return, Phillips lost to the Tribe's Trevor Spracklin 5-7, 6-2, 3-6 at #1. Spracklin's three set victory clinched the match 4-2 for William and Mary. The win was Spracklin's 18th victory of the season.
Senior co-captain Michael Grass and sophomore Assaf Drori posted the two Tar Heel points, with wins at #3 and #5 singles. Grass defeated Patrick Brown 6-0, 6-3. Drori gave the Tribe's Dave Kenas only two games, defeating him 6-2, 6-0.
After a second match of the day against UNC-Asheville at 4 p.m., the Tar Heels next match will be Saturday March 9 against the Texas Longhorns in Austin.
