AUSTIN, Texas - The #8-ranked University of Texas men's tennis team shut out #58 North Carolina Tuesday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center to improve the Longhorns record to 10-3 on the season while also giving Texas head coach Dave Snyder his 501st win at Texas. The Tar Heels fell to 6-4 with the loss to the Longhorns.
Snyder's veteran team had little trouble putting away the Tar Heels, who have only one senior in the lineup. Senior Jack Brasington and Paul Martin of Texas each notched their 22nd singles victories of the season. Brasington, the 27th-ranked player in the nation, defeated UNC junior Assaf Drori at #2 singles by 6-4, 6-1 score. Martin, ranked 79th by the ITA, won at #4 singles by defeating UNC freshman Bjorn Rencken, 6-3, 6-0. Forty-sixth-ranked Brandon Hawk of the Longhorns claimed the #1 singles win with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Tar Heel senior Michael Grass.
UNC will be in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. when the Heels play 19th-ranked Texas A&M at College Station, Texas.
