WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The University of North Carolina field hockey team used two second-half goals to defeat William & Mary 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Sixth-ranked UNC improved to 15-4 on the season, while William & Mary dropped to 10-9.
Sophomore Katie McDonald put the Tar Heels on the board just after halftime with her third goal of the season. Junior Kristen McCann scored the team's second goal and is now UNC's leading scorer, with 31 points on the season. Both goals were unassisted.
UNC now turns its attention to the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Tar Heels are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will take on second-seeded Wake Forest on Friday at 4 p.m. The winner advances to the ACC Championship game, scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. That game will be televised live by Home Team Sports.
