Adam Kaszubowski
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Adam Kaszubowski has joined the University of North Carolina fencing program as an assistant coach in November 2024.
Â
Kaszubowski made his way to Chapel Hill from State College, Pa., where he was mostly recently Penn State's interim head coach. Before that, he was the associate head coach for the Nittany Lions.
Â
The men's squad was the national runner-up in 2021, and he coached multiple top-10 finishes. He also coached eight All-Americas.
Born in Poland, he earned his master's degree in physical education with a specialization in fencing from the Academy of Physical Education in Gdansk.
Kaszubowski has been involved with fencing for more than 30 years, first as an athlete and then as a coach and referee. As a member of the Polish men's foil national team, he has competed in a multitude of national and international competitions. He was a bronze individual and team gold medalist at the 1994 Polish Cadet Championships, as well as a silver team medalist at both the 1996 and 1997 Polish Junior Championships.
After his time with the Polish national team, Kaszubowski was the head coach for the Egyptian men's and women's foil teams from 2013 to 2016. In addition to qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic games, his team also had successes at the African Championships: 1st place in Algiers 2016, Cairo 2015, Cairo 2014 and Cape Town 2013.Â
In 2026, Kaszubowski helped coach one of the best team seasons and individual performances by a Carolina fencer in program history. The men's team finished seventh, which was the third top-ten finish of all time and the second under coach Jednak. Peter Bruk became the first foil fencer since 1974 to win an ACC Championship. Bruk followed up with the conference champions with the best men's foilist Mid-Atlantic/South Regional finish since at least 2011, when he finished in second. That finish qualified Bruk for his second straight NCAA Championships, where he tied the best finish by a Carolina men's foil fencer in NCAA Championships history, finishing tied for third. Kevin Bruen first achieved this feat in 1994.  Bruk is the first ever foil fencer in Carolina history to win conference fencer of the year. Bruk was the fourth men’s foil fencer to earn back-to-back All-American honors as he finished tied for third.  Â
In his first year on staff, he made an immediate impact, with two foil fencers finishing in the top five at the ACC Championships. His success continued into the postseason, as freshman Peter Bruk finished fifth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, earning First Team All-Region honors. Bruk made his NCAA Championship debut, bringing home an impressive ninth-place finish and helping Carolina to a 13th-place finish.
