Shamel Wins Mid-Atlantic/South Regional

ARDMORE, Pa -Â Carolina fencing had a great showing at the regional with eight fencers finishing in the top ten.
Â
Youssef Shamel's incredible freshman season continues as he won the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. Shamel and Boris Muga advanced to the final twelve fencers, where they had to fence everyone in that round once. Shame went 10-1 with his one loss coming to Muga.

Women's epee had a great showing as a weapon group with three of the four fencers advancing to the round of twelve as Elizabeth Zigalo, Anna Temiryaev, and Mariasole Capellua all finished in the top ten.

Peter Bruk highlighted the men's foil as he finished in second. Men's and women's sabre brought home three top ten finishes. Elden Wood led the way with his fourth-place finish. Freshmen Vasko Atanassov and Dagny Johnson finished sixth and eighth.

Carolina will have to wait until Tuesday, March 10 to find out which fencers were selected for the National Championships.
