Makes the move to shortstop this season after starting at second base during his first two years  One of the most consistent players on the team.
 Sophomore (2011)
 Started all 67 games with 62 coming at second base and five others at shortstop  Earned All-ACC Second Team honors  Ranked second on the team with a .311 average (84-270) for the year  His 84 hits ranked tied for sixth in the ACC and 65th in the country  Crossed the plate a team-high 57 times on the year to rank seventh in the conference and 61st in the nation  Closed the year by reaching base safely in 29 straight games  His 18-game hitting streak from March 5-April 2 was the longest streak of the year for any Tar Heel and third longest in the ACC  Also had a 10-game hitting streak from May 13-27  One of five Tar Heels to draw at least 40 walks on the year  Led the team with 25 multi-hit games, including a team-best seven three-hit games  Paced the team with 18 stolen bases in 24 attempts  Ranked second on the team with a .306 average (38-124) in ACC games  Earned NCAA Chapel Hill Regional honors by going 5-for-12 (.417) with three runs and three RBI  Set a career high with three stolen bases against Elon (3/8)  Summer 2011: Appeared in 29 games with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League  Named to the Cape Cod All-League Team  Was second on the team with a .315 average (34-108) with 12 runs, five doubles, two triples, a home run and 16 RBI.

 Appeared in 58 games with 52 starts making 42 at second base and 10 as the designated hitter  Posted a .282 average (57-202) with 48 runs scored and 25 RBI  Tallied seven doubles, two triples and a home run  Scored the fourth-most runs on the team with 48  Drew the fourth-most walks on the team with 31  Stole 14 bases on the year ranking second on the team  Recorded 113 assists on the year with only 10 errors on the year  Appeared in 28 games with 26 starts during ACC play  Hit .283 (28-99) with 14 RBI and 22 runs scored  Set a season high with four hits against Princeton (3/16)  Also scored a school record five runs against the Tigers  Drove in a season-high four runs at Duke (3/12)  Recorded his first career hit against George Washington (2/21)  Drove in six runs in the series against Duke March 12-14  Tallied a season-long six game hitting streak from March 16-27  Was 2-for-2 with a RBI off the bench at Maryland (4/4)  Drove in three at No. 20 Clemson (4/24)  Crossed the plate four times against Virginia Tech (5/22). Summer 2010: Appeared in 57 games for the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League  Finished with a .310 average (58-187)  Scored 40 runs during the summer.

 Four-year all-conference selection as a middle infielder at Germantown Academy for coach John Duffy  Claimed 2009 preseason Louisville Slugger All-America honors  Graduated as Germantown's all-time hits leader  Led team to 2008 Pennsylvania independent schools state title  As a senior, served as team captain and earned team MVP honors  Also played two years of soccer as a midfielder  Honor roll student  Served as a Patriot Ambassador and was a member of the weight lifting club  Played summer ball with the Philly Bandits of the Harry Startzell Collegiate League.

 Thomas John Coyle III is the son of Tom and Toni Coyle  Born Oct. 24, 1990, in Sellersville, Pa.  Has a younger brother, Sean, who was drafted in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox  Majoring in exercise and sport science at Carolina  Father played baseball at Penn.
