CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- No. 7 Carolina women's soccer took on NJIT Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill. Carolina shut out the Highlanders 5-0 in the first ever matchup between the programs.

How it Happened

Riley Kennedy got on the scoresheet early, finding the back of the net in just the fourth minute. The goal is Kennedy's first as a Tar Heel. Bella Devey was credited with the assist, her first of the season.

In the 20th minute, Carolina was awarded a penalty kick after a call in the 18-yard box was overturned. Summer Denigan buried the shot to the top left, extending the Tar Heel lead to 2-0. The goal marked Denigan's seventh goal of the season, with four coming from PK's.

Before the half, freshman Ella Martinez looked to add a third goal, but her shot was saved by the Highlander in goal. Carolina finished the first half with four shot attempts.

Midfielder Deus Stanislaus opened the second half with her first career goal. The 50th-minute goal was assisted by Amari Manning, who now has two assists on the season.

Leah Kuklick made her collegiate debut in the 64th minute. The freshman missed the first seven games of the season due to injury.

Shaela Bradley later drew the second PK of the day. Devey stepped up to take the PK scoring on her first career penalty attempt by slotting the ball in the top left corner. Devey now leads the Tar Heels in goals with eight.

An NJIT handball late in the second half awarded Carolina their third PK of the game. Senior Raegan Williams stepped up to the spot, but her attempt to the bottom left corner was saved.

Chloe Shroff later added to the lead in the 89th minute with her first career goal. The unassisted shot helped bring Carolina's advantage to 5-0.

UNC is set to host Duke at 8 p.m. Thursday night. The renewal of the Tobacco Road rivalry will be the 35th matchup between the teams, with Carolina having a 12-4-1 record at home against Duke.
