#5 Field Hockey Loses In Overtime Against #20 Old Dominion

The Tar Heels (2-3) held three goal leads at two different points as the team came out firing in the first half. However, decisive set piece attacks from the Monarchs in the fourth quarter and overtime completed the unlikely comeback.
Ella Barbacci was the star of the offense for Carolina, recording the first multi-score game of her career. She opened the game with goal inside of the first minute before adding another in the third quarter by sending the goalie the wrong way.
The senior has stepped into a huge new role this season. She's started all five games so far for the Heels after having never made a start in three seasons prior. Her two goals today were double her career total prior.
Carolina's hero throughout the game on the back end was reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Week Merritt Skubisz, who made a career-high 15 saves to keep her team alive as they fought off heavy pressure from Old Dominion in the second half. It is the most saves by a Carolina keeper in at least the last 10 years.
The Tar Heels have an opportunity for a quick bounce back when they travel to face Richmond on Sunday. Game time is set for 12 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
