Baseball Falls Short In ACC Tournament Title Game, Lose 13-6 To Georgia Tech
May 24, 2026 | Baseball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina baseball played a back-and-forth affair with Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon in the final of the 2026 ACC Baseball Championship, but ultimately lost 13-6.
Â
The No. 2 Tar Heeks (45-11-1) fall one game short of claiming what would have been back-to-back ACC Tournament titles and 10 total in program history with the defeat to the No. 1 seeded and No. 3 nationally ranked Yellow Jackets. The game represented the highest ranked conference tournament final in the sport in over 10 years.
Â
The Heels struck first through Owen Hull, who singled to bring home Jake Schaffner in the top of the first. Hull was the consistent engine throughout the game for Carolina's offense.
Â
His fifth inning home run was the highlight of the day at the plate for UNC before a well struck ball in the seventh forced a Georgia Tech error in left that ended up with the Carolina center field on second. He finished the day
Â
Hull, Rom Kellis V, and Jake Schaffner earned All-Tournament Team recognition for the Diamond Heels. The trio combined to hit 16-for-34 (.470) with three home runs, nine runs scored, and 19 RBIs.
Â
Carolina went with a bullpen day on the mound, but was unable to hold the nation's top scoring offense at bay. Walker McDuffie was the lone bright spot with a clean 1.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts, no hits, and no runs surrendered.
Â
The Tar Heels will find out the next step on their postseason journey tomorrow when the NCAA announces the field for NCAA Tournament. The selection show will start at noon on ESPN2.
