RALEIGH, N.C. – Carolina softball picked up a big win against NC State on Thursday night by a score of 9-6.

The win is the sixth consecutive over NC State in Raleigh.

The Tar Heels punched first with an RBI double from Shelby Barbee to go up 1-0. In the third it was Barbee's turn again to pick up an RBI, this time with a hit by pitch, making it 2-0. An MC Eaton bases loaded walk made it 3-0. Then Michele Tarpey missed a grand slam by about two feet but it resulted in a two RBI double. Raegan Jennings followed it up with a two RBI double of her own to make it 7-0 in the third inning.

NC State responded with three in the bottom half but Emily LeGette did what she's done all year and blasted a home run to dead center field to respond. It was her 19th of the season, tying her for third most in single season program history.

The Wolfpack hit a three run homer to cut the UNC lead to 8-6 in the sixth inning. Once again; Emily LeGette responded. This time with an absolute laser to dead center to make it a 9-6 ball game. It was her 20th of the year and fourth multi-home run game of the season. She is the first Tar Heel hitter with 20 home runs in a season since Kendra Lynch in 2017.

Kendall Frost shut things down in the bottom half of the seventh to finish her third complete game of the season.

UNC takes on NC State again tomorrow at 5 PM on ACCNX.
