Women's Golf 3rd, Yeung 7th In Gators Invitational

Sophomore Helen Yeung led North Carolina with a 1-under-par 69 in the first round of the Florida Gators Invitational Friday at the Mark Bostick University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville.

The host Gators hold the 18-hole lead at 9-under 271, four strokes ahead of Virginia (275) and 11 in front of the Tar Heels (2-over 282). Michigan (287) is fourth and Oklahoma is fifth (289).

All five Tar Heels shot 72 or better, including Yeung, who made three birdies and only two bogeys to tie for seventh at 1 under. Marie Prats-Rigual shot even-par 70, Ing Iadpluem carded a 71 and Reagan Southerland and Megan Streicher shot 72s.

Florida's Siuue Wu is the clubhouse leader with a 5-under 65 as the Gators hold three of the top four spots.

Yeung was one of only 11 players in the field of 78 to break par.
