Women’s Tennis Tops Illinois, 4-0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – One-seeded University of North Carolina women's tennis topped eighth-seeded Illinois, 4-0, in the round of 16 at the ITA Team National Indoor Championship Friday evening in Champaign, Ill. The Tar Heels improved to 8-0 on the season while advancing to the tournament quarterfinals.
No. 6 Reese Brantmeier/Alanis Hamilton raced to a 6-1 win over their opponents from Illinois to get Carolina started in doubles action. Tatum Evans/Anna Frey finished shortly after with a win to clinch the doubles point for the Tar Heels.
In singles play, no. 51 Anna Frey put together a dominant performance defeating Tess Bucher in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to give UNC a 2-0 edge in the match.
After a tightly contested first set, no. 21 Tatum Evans downed her opponent 6-0 in the second to give Carolina their second singles win of the night.
No. 1 Reese Brantmeier picked up another ranked singles win in the match against no. 67 McKenna Schaefbauer (6-2, 6-3). Brantmeier's win also clinched the match for UNC, 4-0. Friday's win marks the third consecutive win that Brantmeier has clinched for the Tar Heels.
