Seelmann Named ACC Linebacker Of The Week
October 19, 2026 | Football
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following his standout defensive performance in North Carolina's 24-20 road win at Duke last Saturday, Peyton Seelmann has been named ACC Linebacker of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Seelmann recorded a game-high 16 tackles to lead the Tar Heels' stout defensive effort. The junior linebacker totaled seven solo tackles and nine assisted tackles, while adding 0.5 tackles for loss, a half sack for seven yards and a quarterback hurry.Â
His 16 tackles are the most by a Carolina player since Nov. 25, 2023, when Cedric Gray, now a member of the Tennessee Titans in the NFL, tallied 17 tackles. Seelmann was at his best when the Tar Heels needed him the most, as he had 13 of his tackles in the second half, including seven in the fourth quarter. His pass rush late in the fourth quarter resulted in an intentional grounding call by Duke's quarterback, crediting him with a half sack and a tackle for loss. It was just the second sack that the Blue Devils' offensive line has allowed this season.
A transfer from Richmond where he recorded a career-high 20 tackles in a game last year, his 16 tackles versus the Blue Devils are the most he has tallied against a Power Four opponent. That mark was also the most by an ACC player last week and the second most by an ACC player this season.Â
Carolina's defense held Duke's rushing attack to a season-low 124 yards, as the Blue Devils entered the game averaging 226.6 rushing yards per game.Â
The Tar Heels will return home for the first of back-to-back home, ACC games Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against Syracuse on ACC Network.Â
