ATLANTA — Caleb Wilson, Henri Veesaar and Seth Trimble all dominated in stretches as No. 16 North Carolina cruised past Georgia Tech, 91-75, on Saturday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion.
Wilson, Veesaar and Trimble combined for 60 points, 22 rebounds and eight assists, shooting 25 for 44 collectively. The Yellow Jackets trailed by 15 at halftime and never mounted a second-half threat as Carolina controlled the entire game and won its third in a row.
Wilson, an Atlanta native playing in front of plenty of family and friends in the stands, scored 14 points in the final 7:43 of the first half and eventually tallied 22 points, six rebounds and a game-high five assists. Along the way, he set UNC records for most 20-point games by a freshman and most double-figure scoring games by a freshman to start his career.
Veesaar led the way early, scoring 11 of Carolina's first 22 points. He finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for his 11th double-double and sixth 20-point game this season.
Trimble sliced through the Yellow Jacket defense to hit 8 of 14 shots for 18 points. Luka Bogavac had his best scoring game in the last 17 outings with 16 points, hitting 6 of 10 attempts and 3 of 7 three-pointers.
Baye Ndongo led all scorers with 27 points on 9 of 12 shooting for Tech, adding seven rebounds and four assists.
The Tar Heels controlled possession and committed a season-low two turnovers while forcing 12 Tech miscues leading to an 18-0 dominance in points off turnovers.
Carolina improved to 17-4 this season, 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech lost for the sixth time in seven games and fell to 11-11, 2-7.
UNC played well in the first half and built a double-digit lead just over 10 minutes into the action. The Tar Heels led, 52-37, at the break. In the second half, Carolina never led by fewer than 15 in the final eight minutes.
