Shamel Secures Bronze From Junior Epee World Cup

Cairo- Youssef Shamel finished third at the Junior Epee World Cup in Cairo, Egypt.Â
Shamel entered direct elimination after posting a .500 record in the pool portion, which tied him for the 33rd overall seed.
Shamel fenced Joel Ball-La Hood, from New Zealand, in the first round, winning by seven points. The freshman continued to win, beating Ivan Rychkov of Russia 15-9.
Shamel faced off against a fellow freshman from the Atlantic Coast Conference as he took down No. 1 Elijah Imrek from Notre Dame 15-12. In order to advance into the semifinals, Shamel had to take down another ACC fencer, Daniel Gao from Boston College. Shamel did so 15-14 for his last win of the day.
