T&F Rewrites Record Book At Liberty
January 30, 2026 | Track & Field
LYNCHBURG VA - Carolina track and field brought home seven wins and multiple top-ten program marks during a meet in which nearly every race had the meet or facility record rewritten.
Once again, the Carolina distance crew had a great showing, with multiple top-15 times in the country in the mile. The first seven finishers in the men's mile invite broke the previous meet record, and the first four broke the facility record. Colton Sands led the way for the Tar Heels as he clocked the fifth fastest mile time in the country, which was good for third all-time at Carolina.
Reese Dalton continued her phenomenal start to her sophomore year as she notched her second straight PR, running the fifteenth fastest mile time in the country, as she broke the facility record and met in the mile, and she moved into fifth all-time.
Tomer Tarragano (7:47.96) made his NCAA 3000m debut, posting the 12th-fastest time in the NCAA and moving him into fourth all-time at Carolina.
The Tar Heels had a great showing in the 400m as both Trevor Paschall (47.63) and Delea Martins (54.66) won their respective races. Paschall followed up his win by anchoring the men's 4x400m relay (3:13.43) as he, Killian Fahy, Dovan Calhoun, and Nick Steed set a new meet record by three seconds.
Annie Kerr (4.11m) moved into fifth all-time in the pole vault. Kerr cleared three of her first four jumps to move into the record.
Meanwhile, Kosi Umerah (20.58m) claimed her fourth straight weight throw win to open the season.
The women's 800m Invitational field was loaded as the first-place finisher all the way through ninth broke the meet records. Alli DeLisi, 2:08.55, took fifth, and Cassidy Scott (2:09.56) finished in seventh.
Robert Mechura (14:03.56) paced the Tar Heels as three freshmen swept the men's 5000m to close out Friday's meet. Joe Barrett (14:04.84) and Jack Bowen (14:09.62) claimed second and third.
