Women's Tennis Set To Begin NCAA Play This Weekend

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of North Carolina women's tennis team is the No. 5 overall seed and will open play in the Chapel Hill Regional of the 2025 NCAA Championship this weekend at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Ranked No. 5 this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, UNC will meet VCU in the first round on Friday at 4 p.m.

South Carolina and Kansas will meet in Friday's opening first-round match at 1 p.m. in Chapel Hill. The winners will meet in the second round on Saturday at 4 p.m. with a bid to next weekend's Super Regional round on the line.

Tickets are available here. UNC students will be admitted to Tar Heel matches free of charge with their OneCard.

Carolina enters the NCAA Championship having won eight straight matches and 16 of its last 17. UNC earned a national seed in the team championship for the 21st time in 22 seasons under head coach Brian Kalbas and is making its 26th consecutive NCAA appearance
The Tar Heels own an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 64-24 and have advanced beyond the regional round on 19 occasions, including a run to the program's first NCAA championship in 2023.
VCU (14-10) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA field by virtue of winning the Atlantic 10 Conference championship last month, beating Richmond, 4-1, in the final. The Rams are making their 21st NCAA appearance and its first since 2022.

South Carolina (14-11) is an at-large entrant into the NCAA field, making its 30th consecutive appearance in the tournament. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 28 by the ITA this week.

Kansas (14-11), ranked No. 40 by the ITA, is making its 14th NCAA appearance and seventh under head coach Todd Chapman. The Jayhawks reached the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Conference Championship last month.
