ACC Women's Golf Championship Starts Wednesday At Sedgefield
April 15, 2025 | Women's Golf
The 12th-ranked UNC women's golf team will tee off in the 2025 ACC Championship following a regular season that featured six top-four finishes in eight tournaments, including wins in the Cavalier Regional Preview in Charlottesville, Va., and Yale Invitational West in La Quinta, Calif.
Â
Competition to decide the ACC champion begins Wednesday and covers four days at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. The tournament features 54 holes of stroke play on Wednesday and Thursday and three rounds of match play on Friday and Saturday.
Â
A year ago, the Tar Heels advanced to match play for the first time, falling to eventual champion Wake Forest in the semifinals. Junior Megan Streicher tied for 10th, the Tar Heels' best individual finish since Jennifer Zhou tied for eighth in 2019. Carolina's tie for third in stroke play was its best finish since 2015.
Â
"We've had a strong and consistent regular season with standout performances across the board," says Aimee Neff, the Bobby Galloway Women's Golf Head Coach. "The momentum we've built, both individually and as a team, has positioned us well heading into the postseason. If we continue to stay focused, trust our preparation, and play with the same heart, we believe we can make a deep run and do something special."
Â
Carolina's lineup includes sophomore Ing Iadpluem, sophomore Reagan Southerland, junior Megan Streicher, freshman Helen Yeung and freshman Katie Vu. Freshman Marie Prats-Rigual is the alternate.
Â
Iadpluem enters the ACC Tournament on a run of strong performances, as she has finished fourth, second and tied for second in the last three starts. That included a career-best 11-under-par 205 to place second in the Yale Invitational West. Iadpluem is second on the team in scoring average at 72.04 per round.
Â
Southerland shot 7-under 209 to place fifth at Yale and tied for 14th in the Chattanooga Classic. She gave Carolina its point in the 2024 ACC semifinal match as she defeated Wake Forest's Mimi Rhodes 4&3.
Â
Streicher is averaging 71.38, which is on pace to break UNC's single-season scoring record of 71.83, which she established last year. Streicher is coming off an appearance in the Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she was the first Tar Heel to compete in the ANWA. She finished in the top four in the first four tournaments and has six top 10s in eight events. Not only does Streicher have the two lowest single-season scoring averages in UNC history, but her career stroke average of 72.23 is also the best by a Tar Heel by nearly a full stroke.
Â
Yeung and Vu are making their ACC Tournament debuts. Yeung has finished in the top six four times and shot a season-low 66 in the third round in La Quinta. She shot 9-under 203 to tie for third at the PDI Intercollegiate and 8-under 208 to place fourth at Yale.
Â
Vu has two top-15 finishes, tying for 10th in Charlottesville and placing 14th in Chattanooga.
Â
UNC is the No. 4 seed (based on the NCAA's Scoreboard/Clippd rankings). The top six seeds include Stanford (ranked No. 1), Florida State (4), Wake Forest (9), UNC (12) and Virginia (13), Duke (23).
Â
The Tar Heels are paired with the Cavaliers and Blue Devils and will begin play on Wednesday on the 10th hole at 7:45 a.m.
Â
The teams will 36 holes on Wednesday and 18 on Thursday. The top-two teams after stroke play will get byes to Friday afternoon's semifinals. The quarterfinals begin Friday at 7:30 a.m., the semifinals are Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the championship match is Saturday at 9 a.m.
Â
Admission is free.
