Tar Heels Head West for Yale Invitational
March 9, 2025 | Women's Golf
The 15th-ranked Tar Heels make their first trip to the Pacific Time Zone this season as they compete in the Yale Invitational West in La Quinta, Ca. The tournament is hosted at PGA West's Greg Norman Course, Carolina's first appearance at any of the six courses at PGA West.
Carolina's appearance in the Yale Invitational West follows a 10th-place finish in the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Fla.
The Tar Heels have four top-five finishes in six events this season, including a win at the Cavalier Regional Preview in the fall and a third-place finish at the PDI Intercollegiate, their first event of the spring.
Sophomore Ing Iadpluem will be looking to keep up the momentum from Florida following her fourth-place finish in Melbourne, her highest finish in a full-field tournament. Iadpluem carded a career-low 3-under par total in the event.
Junior Megan Streicher, ranked 32nd in the country, is on pace to break her own record for lowest single-season scoring average and has four top-five finishes and five top 10s in six tournaments. (Streicher is averaging 70.89, ahead of the 71.83 she shot last season.
Helen Yeung, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., is seeking her fourth top five finish of the season after a tie for third in the PDI Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Reagan Southerland and spring enrollee Marie Prats-Rigual round out the Tar Heel lineup in California. Freshman Katie Vu will be competing as an individual.
UNC will be joined by 11 other teams, tournament host Yale, no. 12 Vanderbilt, no. 23 Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
Live scoring can be found on Scoreboard.
"We're excited to be out west competing in California, especially knowing our ultimate goal is to be back here in May for the national championship," says head coach Aimee Neff. "Seeing Ing step up at Moon Golf and put herself in contention to win was incredible; it's a testament to the hard work she put in during the offseason. The fact that we have multiple players capable of contending for an individual title only makes us stronger as a team. We're building momentum, and I love where we're headed."
