Men's Tennis Cruises Past BC, 4-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—North Carolina played one of its better matches of the season and defeated Boston College, 4-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference men's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Chewning Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels didn't lose a set on the day as they improved to 7-2 at home this season.
Playing its first home match in three weeks, Carolina improved to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the victory. Boston College lost its fifth in a row and dropped to 3-8, 0-7.
The Tar Heels improved to 22-0 all-time against the Eagles.
Carolina won the doubles point in quick fashion to start the afternoon. Vladislav Melnic and Chris Xu dispatched of Aidan Pack and Jake Vassel, 6-2, at the No. 1 lineup slot for the first decision. A few minutes later, Diego Jarry and Anthony Wright beat Liam O'Leary and Caleb Saltz, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles action, Carolina won the first set in all six matches. Melnic cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 slot to make the score 2-0 in UNC's favor, then Nick Mangiapane followed with one of his stronger matches of the season, a 6-2, 6-0 win over Matthew Overvelde at No. 6.
Wright won the clinching singles match, besting Mai Gao, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Xu perhaps was seconds away from winning the clincher himself at No. 3, but his match went unfinished with him leading, 6-4, 5-2.
