Gutch Wins 3-Meter, Vázquez Montaño Qualifies At Zone B Championships

Auburn, Ala. – University of North Carolina diver Lanie Gutch won the NCAA Zone B 3-Meter Championship, while Aranza Vázquez Montaño advanced in the event with a third-place finish on Tuesday in Auburn, Ala. Gutch scored 706.4 points, including 370.8 points across her final six dives, to secure the victory, two places ahead of Vázquez Montaño, who scored 696.9 points.
Gutch, who claimed silver in the 3-meter at the ACC Championships, won her second event of the season and first at three meters. She previously won the 1-meter at the Virginia Tech Diving Invitational. The freshman from Orlando, Fla. is now qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
Vázquez Montaño is also qualified in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. She'll have the opportunity to go for the three-peat in both events having won NCAA Championships at 1-meter and 3-meters in 2023 and '24.
Ellie Joyce finished in 12th place for the second consecutive day. If she's able to finish in the top seven on the platform tomorrow, she'd earn qualification to the NCAA Championships in all three events.
The men finished competition at Zones with Carter Loftin placing 10th on the platform, while Conrad Eck placed 16th.
