Ten Things to Know
- North Carolina is ranked No. 23 this week in the Road To Nationals poll, its sixth straight week in the top 25.
- This week, the Tar Heels rank 22nd nationally on vault (49.01 NQS), 21st on bars (49.11 NQS), 19th on beam (49.03 NQS) and 32nd on floor (49.02 NQS).
- In the ACC, Carolina ranks fourth on vault, third on bars and beam, and fifth on floor.
- UNC has 15 rotations of 49.0+ this year, including five on bars. Through eight meets last year in 2024, the team only had 10 rotations of 49.0+.
- JoJo Valahovic was named the ACC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 25 for the fourth week in a row. She won the honor after placing second on vault (9.875), beam (matched career-high 9.95) and floor (9.875) at NC State on Feb. 21.
- Valahovic is the first gymnast in ACC Gymnastics history to win Newcomer of the Week more than two times. She is also the first UNC gymnast in program history to win multiple ACC weekly honors in the same season.
- Valahovic is one of six gymnasts in the ACC to record a 9.95 or higher on beam, and the only freshman to do so. She is one of 10 gymnasts – and the only rookie – in the ACC to have scored a 9.9 or higher on vault.
- With an NQS of 9.9, Lali Dekanoidze ranks first in the ACC, second in the Southeast Region and 10th in the country. Four of her seven bar routines this year have been 9.9+, highlighted by her program-record-tying 9.975 on Jan. 24.
- Last time out vs. No. 1 Oklahoma in the Metroplex Challenge on Feb. 23, Carolina had a season-high road score of 196.2, its second highest team score this year.
- Dekanoidze won bars twice last weekend: 9.925 at NC State on Friday before her 9.95 vs. Oklahoma on Feb. 23. That was her 20th and 21st event titles on bars in her career.
