Ten Things to Know
- North Carolina is ranked No. 24 this week, its fifth straight week in the top 25.
- As of Feb. 17, the Tar Heels rank 25th nationally on vault (48.87), 30th on bars (48.925), 18th on beam (49.0) and 42nd on floor (48.84). In the ACC, UNC ranks third on beam, fourth on vault and bars, and fifth on floor. Â
- Carolina has 13 rotations of 49.0+ this year. Through seven meets last year in 2024, the team only had eight rotations of 49.0+. Â
- JoJo Valahovic was named the ACC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 11 for the third week in a row. She won the honor after career-highs of 9.9 on vault and 9.95 on beam in UNC's meet at Pitt on Feb. 14, winning both events outright. Â
- Valahovic is the first three-time Newcomer of the Week in ACC Gymnastics history. She is also the first UNC gymnast in program history to win multiple ACC weekly honors in the same season. Â
- Valahovic is one of four gymnasts in the ACC to record a league-leading 9.95 on beam and the only freshman to do so. She is one of nine gymnasts – and the only rookie – in the ACC to have scored a 9.9 or higher on vault.
- Last time out at NC State on Feb. 21, Carolina had season-high road score rotations on vault (49.175), bars (49.25) and floor (49.025).
- In Raleigh earlier this weekend, three Tar Heels won events outright: Kaya Forbes (vault, career-high 9.9), Lali Dekanoidze (bars, 9.925) and Julia Knower (all-around, season-high 39.3).Â
- Carolina's season-high team score of 196.575 came on Feb. 9 vs. Clemson at home. The Tar Heels also set a season-high 49.425 on floor during that meet.
- UNC boasts five gymnasts from Texas: TaeLyn Canty, Elly King, Neve King, Paige Prejean and Taylor Schulze.
