Swimming Places Two on Podium, Breaks Three School Records on Day 4 of ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. – University of North Carolina swimmers secured two podiums and three school records on day four of the ACC Championships in Greensboro on Friday. Sebastian Lunak placed third in the 200 fly, improving on his school record, and Skyler Smith took bronze in the 100 breast. Walker Davis improved his school record in the 100 back as well, while the men's 400-medley relay set the school's top time. The men's team remains in third place with 741 points, while the women sit in fifth at 544.5.

Lunak led a group of five Tar Heels who qualified for finals in the 200 fly. His time of 1:40.12 landed him the bronze, while Colin Whelehan placed eighth with a time of 1:42.15, moving him to No. 3 all-time. Patrick Hussey took 11th, Boyd Poelke came in 12th while moving to No. 5 all-time at UNC, and Louis Dramm finished in 13th.

Smith used a 58.63 to reach the podium in the 100 breaststroke. Her time was an NCAA B cut, but also would've have gotten her an entry in last year's NCAA Championships. Samantha Armand used a 59.94 in the event to finish 12th and move into No. 4 all-time at UNC.

The men's 400-medley relay of Davis, Ben Delmar, PJ Foy and Patrick Hussey set a school record and notched an NCAA A cut en route to a sixth-place finish with a 3:03.36. Delmar placed sixth in the 100 breast with a time of 51.71, while Xavier Ruiz moved into No. 3 all-time at UNC with a 51.98 to finish 11th. Davis swam a 45.24 in the 100 back to improve on his school record. He won the consolation final to finish ninth overall. Carter Loftin advanced to the final in the platform, finishing eighth overall.

The women's 400-medley relay of Greer Pattison, Skyler Smith, Lily Sawyer and Elizabeth Sowards took seventh in a time of 3:31.51. Taylor Bloom used a 1:58.47 to finish eighth in the 200 fly after moving into the Top 10 at UNC with a 1:56.19 during prelims.
