Three More School Records Go Down On Day Two Of ACCs
February 19, 2025 | Swimming & Diving
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of North Carolina swimmers set three school records and men's diving placed three in the top eight to lead UNC on day two of the ACC Championships in Greensboro on Wednesday. The 200-yard freestyle relay team set its mark in the evening finals session, while the 50-freestyle school record was set twice by two different Tar Heels, PJ Foy in the prelims and Martin Kartavi as the leadoff leg of the 200-free relay in the finals session.Â
In the overall team scores, the men sit in third place with 383 points, while the women are fifth with 260 points.
Â
The 200-free relay of Kartavi, Louis Dramm, Patrick Hussey and Foy used an NCAA A cut of 1:15.88 to better the time set by Walker Davis, Dramm, Hussey and Foy (1:16.35) from earlier this season. Kartavi led off the relay with a smoking 19.08 to move into first all-time after Foy set the mark to beat in the 50-free prelims at 19.21. The 19.21 bested the previous mark of 19.34 set by Steve Cebertowicz in 2012.
Â
Rodolfo Vázquez Montaño took fourth in the 1-meter springboard final with 352.12 points, while Carter Loftin (Personal Best: 339.40) and Christopher Booler (300.50) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Â
Dramm went on to take fourth in the 200-individual medley with a 1:42.05. A trio of Tar Heels shot up the all-time list in the bonus final of the event, where Colin Whelehan (1:43.37), Sebastian Lunak (1:43.55) and JT Schmid (1:43.70) ended up second, third and fourth all-time, respectively.
Â
On the women's side, the 200-free relay of Greer Pattison, Georgia Nel, Elizabeth Sowards and Skyler Smith produced an NCAA A cut with a time of 1:28.42. Mary Macaulay improved on her personal best in the 200-individual medley with a time of 1:56.26. She held onto her position as the third-fastest Tar Heel in the event, while winning the 'B' final.
Â
During the morning prelims, Kartavi tied for 16th place but went on to win a swim-off and secure his place in the B final. His time of 19.31 in the swim-off bettered the previous school record and ranked second all-time up to that point. Dramm clocked 1:42.41 in the 200 IM to qualify second and lead a group of five Tar Heels that advanced to finals in the event. Vázquez Montaño, Booler and Loftin claimed three-of-the-eight slots in the 1-meter dive finals.
